Farm Size: 45 acres
What They Grow: Apples
Nestled in the rolling hills of western Sonoma County, Devoto Gardens & Orchards is a family-owned farm rooted in a deep love for the land, sustainable agriculture, and the beauty of heirloom varieties. The farm's story began in 1976 when Susan and Stan Devoto moved from El Cerrito to Sebastopol, where they began growing microgreens on an old apple orchard. What started as a small farming venture soon blossomed into a lifelong passion for cultivating heirloom apples and specialty cut flowers.
A few years later, Susan and Stan purchased their homestead property and planted 20 acres of heirloom apple trees and flowers, laying the foundation for what would become a thriving family farm. More than 30 years later, following the birth of their three daughters and the heartbreaking loss of Susan to cancer, Stan continues the family's agricultural legacy alongside his daughters, Jolie and Cecily. Today, the Devoto family cultivates more than 80 varieties of heirloom apples, specialty cut flowers, and Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wine grapes across five properties throughout Sonoma County.
Sustainability and environmental stewardship are at the heart of Devoto Gardens & Orchards. The family proudly dry-farms their certified organic apples, relying on natural rainfall and healthy soils rather than supplemental irrigation. Their apples and flowers are grown without synthetic pesticides, fungicides, or herbicides, reflecting a commitment to protecting the land, supporting ecological health, and producing exceptional crops.
With nearly five decades of farming history, Devoto Gardens & Orchards remains a testament to the Devoto family's dedication to sustainable agriculture, preserving heirloom apple varieties, and sharing the beauty and abundance of Sonoma County with their community.
