Fighting Food Insecurity
Thanks to generous grants and community donations, the Giving Box program provides free, locally grown produce to individuals and families facing food insecurity in our region. It complements other nutrition assistance programs by ensuring recipients have access to an ample supply of fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables. At the same time, the program supports local farmers by paying fair market prices for first-quality produce.
In North Lake Tahoe, we partner with the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District’s Food Pantry Program, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, and Calvary Chapel to distribute Giving Boxes to those in need.
How It Works
Our Giving Box Program provides essential support to families in need by delivering fresh, first-quality produce directly to their tables. Each week, we distribute 60 Giving Boxes to food-insecure families across Truckee and North Lake Tahoe. Of these, 10 boxes are picked up at our warehouse, while 50 are delivered by our dedicated church partners to families throughout the community.
During the holiday season, we expand our efforts to ensure no family goes without. An additional 100 Giving Boxes are distributed to food-insecure families within the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District, with deliveries coordinated by the District to ensure a smooth and efficient process.
Every Wednesday evening, our staff and volunteers carefully assemble the Giving Boxes using produce harvested fresh that same morning—guaranteeing the highest level of quality and freshness for the families we serve.

“Residents enjoy the groceries, but they light up when the Giving Boxes arrive. Some rush to tell neighbors, and boxes often go straight into homes. They’re truly grateful for the fresh produce.”
