Alemaya Farm

Guinda, California

Farm Size: 35 acres cultivated

What They Grow: Carrots, radishes, eggplant, and seasonal produce

Located in the beautiful Capay Valley of Yolo County, California, Alemaya Farm is a 73-acre, family-owned farm dedicated to sustainable, biology-centered agriculture. Founded by Jonathan Wilcox and his wife of 56 years, Cynthia, after Jonathan retired from his San Francisco law practice, the farm was born from a shared passion for the land, family, and a desire to create a lasting legacy for future generations. The name Alemaya is a tribute to their two grandchildren, Alejandro and Maya, reflecting the family's deep connection to agriculture, heritage, and stewardship.

Today, Alemaya Farm cultivates a diverse array of vegetables, fruits, and grains across 35 acres, using growing practices that prioritize soil health, biodiversity, and ecological balance. After eight years of Certified Organic production, the farm chose to discontinue formal certification in 2022 while maintaining its rigorous commitment to organic and biodynamic principles. Guided by the teachings of Elaine Ingham's Soil Food Web School, Alemaya Farm focuses on nurturing healthy, biologically active soils and working in harmony with natural ecosystems. The farm sources seeds from Certified Organic suppliers, avoids genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and uses only agricultural inputs that meet Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) standards. Through these thoughtful practices, Alemaya Farm strives to grow nutritious, high-quality food while caring for the land and preserving its vitality for generations to come.
