What They Grow: Microgreens
Founded by Lily, a nutrition scientist (M.S.) and mother of three, Growth & Greens was born from a passion for improving community nutrition, expanding equitable access to fresh food, and inspiring the next generation through hands-on agricultural education. After more than five years of researching community nutrition, garden-based education, and food systems, Lily discovered the remarkable potential of microgreens—tiny, nutrient-dense greens that bring together nutrition, sustainability, and education.
At Growth & Greens, microgreens are cultivated year-round using sustainable vertical farming practices that prioritize both quality and environmental responsibility. Grown with organic seeds, OMRI-certified soil, reusable trays, and filtered water, these vibrant greens are rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and beneficial plant compounds, often containing higher concentrations of certain nutrients than their mature counterparts. The farm also embraces a circular approach to growing, transforming post-harvest plant material into nutrient-rich compost that is donated to a local community garden nonprofit.
Beyond producing fresh, nutritious food, Growth & Greens is deeply committed to making garden-based education accessible to all children. Because microgreens grow quickly and require minimal space and resources, they offer an engaging, hands-on opportunity for children to experience the joy of growing their own food, regardless of their access to a backyard or traditional school garden.
By combining nutrition science, sustainable agriculture, and experiential education, Growth & Greens is helping cultivate healthier communities, strengthen local food systems, and empower the next generation to grow, eat, and learn well.
