The Tahoe Food Hub creates a regional marketplace for restaurants, caterers, small grocers, schools and hospitals in North Lake Tahoe to help them access produce, proteins and specialty products from local farms, ranches and producers. If you are a chef or wholesale food buyer interested in sourcing local food within 100-miles, please contact us and we can connect you with over 40 small, family farms using sustainable farming practices, 10 ranches raising and finishing livestock on pasture and over 30 specialty food producers.
Buyers of the Tahoe Food Hub will be recognized as a supporter of local food and local economies when they display the Tahoe Food Hub’s distinctive green vegetable emblem in their windows, on their websites and in their menus.
How we do it…
Tahoe Food Hub’s certified producers work cooperatively to coordinate their harvests and provide a consistent supply of quality and diverse seasonal fruits and vegetables. By crop planning with our producers, farmers know they have a market for their crops. We deliver one day a week in the winter on Thursdays and two days a week in the summer on Tuesdays and Fridays. We use an online ordering system called Local Orbit. The site allows us to share the story of each farmer in order to better connect our community with where our food comes from and the importance of healthy, sustainably grown food.
If you would like to sign up for our weekly Fresh Sheet, sign-up for an account here. In summer, Fresh Sheets are emailed at 6pm on Tuesday and Friday. And in winter, at 6pm on Monday. When the market closes, our farms get a pick list to harvest the vegetables fresh the NEXT day. We deliver the product fresh to your door the day after harvest. It is like having your own personal farm. We bring the farmers’ market to you!
Build Your Own Box Program:
The Build Your Own Box Program (BYOB) is a customizable farm share program. Members gain access to more than 50 local farms and specialty food producers at wholesale prices. Join as a group of employees, friends, neighbors or as one household.
BYOB overcomes many of the challenges that other veggie box programs face. Instead of paying up front for 6-months, with BYOB you pay weekly as you go. If you need to take a week off, there is no penalty. Pick-up/delivery is convenient and works with your schedule. You decide how much to spend each week and can add dairy, fruit, meat and grains to your personalized order. For a business, BYOB can enhance the culture in the workplace and offer employees a unique wellness benefit at no cost to the business. For a group of friends or neighbors, it is a great way to bring people together around a common goal and shared interest. If you would like to sign-up or get information, contact us here.
